Berwick Youth Choir
Berwick Youth Choir (BYC) was founded in 1986 by highly-regarded music educator Jean Heriot, OAM and this year is celebrating 25 years of operation. BYC is a non-profit organisation committed to the highest standards of vocal, choral and music tuition for all children, and has an established reputation for excellence. It is run by a committee of volunteers, with dedicated music staff.
BYC offers high quality, low cost, comprehensive music education to all children in the rapidly-expanding area of south-east Melbourne. Choristers, who are aged between 5 and 18 years, come from a wide area including the City of Casey, Shire of Cardinia and the Shire of West Gippsland. Weekly rehearsals are held at The Old Cheese Factory in Berwick.
Highly trained and dedicated music teachers aim to ensure that all children enjoy developing skills in music reading, aural training and vocal technique. They use a wide range of high quality music and innovative teaching methods based on the teaching philosophies of prominent Hungarian music educator Zoltán Kodály.
BYC's Music Director is Tania Casey and their accompanist is Simon Loveless.
