Choristry
Choristry is a choral ensemble based in Melbourne, Australia. Established under the name DeChorum in 2008, the ensemble performs under the direction of conductor, composer and performer Trevor Jones. The name was changed to Choristry in August 2009.
The choir’s inaugural concert, a performance of L’Enfance du Christ by Berlioz, was given in support of the Hush Foundation in December 2008 and recorded by radio station 3MBS. In 2009, the ensemble’s diverse program includes a performance of Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor; a concert of madrigals old and new around the themes of Passion, Fire and Fury; and a presentation of contemporary Australian works including Stephen Leek’s Great Southern Spirits.
In 2010, the group continued its varied concert series with a program of Shakespeare texts set to music by composers including Vaughan Williams and our very own Trevor Jones; Symphony, an entertaining concert of symphonic classics arranged for choir; and Saints, a joint concert with the Exaudi Youth Choir including Britten's St Nicolas. 2011 repertoire included Dvorak's Stabat Mater, Bach's Cantata BWV 140: Wachet Auf, ruft uns die Stimme, pieces by Eric Whitacre and Randall Thompson as well as a program of Australian music by Matthew Orlovich, Iain Grandage and Kathryn Sadler.
As well as presenting its own concerts, Choristry performed at the 2009 Australia Day concert at Melbourne’s Federation Square and has participated in several services at the city’s St Paul’s Cathedral. In 2010, Choristry was invited to be part of the Australian National Choral Association's ChoralFest 2010 in Port Macquarie, NSW. Choristry also performs regularly at University of Melbourne graduation ceremonies.
A fully-auditioned choir, Choristry was formed with the express commitment of performing beautiful choral music at the highest standard. All members of Choristry are experienced vocal performers, many of them soloists in their own right.
