Voices of Birralee
Voices of Birralee is a Brisbane based non-profit child and youth choral organisation founded in 1995 by Artistic Director Julie Christiansen, OAM. It now comprises eleven ensembles, which have attained a remarkable level of professionalism and are highly acclaimed by national and international audiences. This is demonstrated by the Birralee Blokes' current title of ABC Classic FM Australian Choir of the Year. The organisation caters for approximately 400 young people aged between 5 and 30 years and employs seventeen casual staff and in excess of twenty-five volunteers.
Children's Choirs: Birralee caters for children aged from 5 to 12 years with 3 training choirs: Piccolos, Juniors, Singers, rehearsing in 4 different locations on different days. Age ranges are flexible - see "Ensembles" for more detail.
Youth Choirs: Birralee has 3 signature ensembles, catering for teenagers; boys whose voices are or have changed; and young adults. Brisbane Birralee Voices is for 12-18 year old boys and girls; Birralee Blokes is for boys only who are no longer treble voices and Resonance of Birralee is for young adults who have left school and are working or undertaking tertiary education.
Male Voices: The Birralee Blokes is a male only ensemble, for boys whose voices are changing, to sing in a secure environment with a repertoire aimed at allowing them to sing through their voice change in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
