Below are the details: Opening Night ConcertWelcome visiting performers to Tasmania and to the Festival of Voices in a concert that showcases the talent joining us for the 2010 Festival program. Performed in St David’s Cathedral, the Opening Night Concert will feature visiting choirs, and include the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Chorus, Gondwana Voices, Hobart Orpheus Choir (Australia’s oldest choir), and the Melbourne University Choral Society (MUCS). Each choir will perform a short work giving the audience an opportunity to experience the wide repertoire to be heard at this year’s Festival. Book early – this concert sells out. This concert features the resonant voices of the acclaimed Spooky Men’s Chorale. In ‘Spanish Pilgrimage’ the TSO Chorus will sing a repertoire of early Spanish material associated with the Camino de Santiago. Since the 9 Century, pilgrims from around the world have made their way on foot to Santiago de Compostela in the mountains of northwest Spain. The mix of cultures linked to these trails has created the extraordinary choral music that will feature here. Fitting neatly into the lunch hour you can follow the TSO Chorus each day as they make their own daily pilgrimage to venues in the CBD. Catch these free 15-minute performances starting at 1.15pm. Aperitivo Concert SeriesThree choirs, one hour The Aperitivo Concert Series showcases the choirs in this year’s festival. Choirs from all over the country will feature in these one-hour concerts performing a varied range of repertoire. Set in Hobart’s CBD and waterfront venues the concerts are a little aperitivo before the rest of your Festival night unfolds. Performance details of the Aperitivo Concert schedule will be available in June at Wednesday 7 July / Town Hall / Macquarie Street / 7.30–8.30pm
