Our Program for 2011 will be released soon. Here's a taste of what went on in 2010. Festival Bonfire and Big Sing & Candlelight Vocal ProcessionJoin us as we celebrate the power of the voice and community spirit. The Festival of Voices Bonfire and Big Sing has become a mid-winter tradition in Hobart. It begins with a candlelight vocal procession winding its way into Salamanca Place for the lighting of the great fire. This is also your chance to be a part of Tasmania’s largest choir and perform as part of the FOV 936 Flashmob Choir. Visit 936 ABC Hobart and follow the links to download your voice part. Learn it while you walk to work or sing it in the shower, then rug up, warm up your vocal cords and come to Salamanca Place ready for the bonfire celebration. Stephen Taberner, founder and director of the Spooky Men’s Chorale, will be conducting the Bonfire Song. This is a free family event that will warm your heart as everyone joins in celebration and song. Rug up, bring your family and friends, join in with the FOV / 936 Flash Mob Choir and enjoy a very special evening. Saturday 10 July, Salamanca, from 6.30pm on. Conceived in Helsinki, launched in Birmingham, and now debuting in Tasmania, the Festival of Voices Complaints Choir is part of a world-wide movement creating a forum to sing away all those grumbles and complaints. Kavisha Mazzella, renowned singer-songwriter and choir conductor will lead this free community choir. Kavisha will work with choir members to compose a song incorporating their complaints. This fun and creative project aims to transform gripes and grievances into light-hearted works of song. No previous choir experience is required, just a complaint and the urge to voice it! The Complaints Choir was the brainchild of Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen and since the inaugural complaints choir in the UK, the project has been popping up across the globe. Daniel returns to the village of his childhood and is soon asked to come and "offer a bit of good advice" to the small church choir. Daniel resists, yet he finds that there is no way he can gracefully refuse the choir's request, and reluctantly agrees to help. As he begins to work with the choir, Daniel, quite to his own surprise, begins to rediscover his long-lost joy for music. Running time: 130 minutes.
