Back by popular demand, join Moira Smiley and VOCO in a workshop exploring a hard-driving mix of folk styles, powerful emotive music, body stompin’ percussive movement and joyous, magnificent, hair raising harmonies. This is a workshop designed for singers of all abilities who want to stretch their vocal styles and explore the wonders of harmony working towards a performance in the Festival’s Finale Concert in the Federation Concert Hall. Moira is a world renowned vocal coach, composer, performer and musical ‘shape shifter’ and with VOCO they’ve played through the world, were voted the #1 A Cappella band in the USA in 2007, and called truly phenomenal’ by Folkworks Magazine.
This workshop also includes:
- Free entry into Aperitivo Concert Series - 5 one-hour concerts featuring visiting choirs (subject to capacity)
- Free nightly entry into the Festival Club
and for participating choirs performance opportunities for your choir in our non-competitive performance program, including the Aperitivo Concert Series, Singing in Public Places - Hobart Twelve and the Festival Club. Solo performers are welcome to enquire about performance opportunities in the Festival Club as part of their workshop participation.

Adult Major Workshops are accredited units (12.5%) within the Diploma of Music Performance degree offered through the University of Tasmania’s Conservatorium of Music, one of our major Festival partners. HECS scholarships are offered to all participants, and therefore no HECS fees are charged for these units. Music and listening material will be sent to participant’s pre the commencement of the workshop, as well as additional reading that directly impacts the music to be performed. (International Students are not eligible for HECs or course fee subsidy and full fees apply). The partnership between the Festival of Voices and the Conservatorium of Music maintains the high quality of International Artists working with participants throughout the festival giving community choir members of many abilities a truly inspiring and challenging experience.
All major workshop participants must enroll with the Conservatorium of Music (UTAS), international students are exempted. Staff will be available at registration to assist with the paperwork.
